Shocking Animal Cruelty Case Leads to Arrest in Pune as Man Accused of Killing His Dog is Taken into Custody

A disturbing case of animal cruelty has surfaced in Pirangut, Pune, where a man was arrested for allegedly killing his pet dog by hanging it with a rope and sharing the images via WhatsApp. This act has sparked outrage across social media, with animal rights advocates and the public calling for swift action. The police took the accused into custody following widespread condemnation and pressure from activists.

Mission Possible Foundation Stands Up for Animal Rights

The FIR was filed by Padmini Peter Stump, a 66-year-old member of Mission Possible Foundation, an organization based in Pune dedicated to the care and protection of animals since 2006. Mission Possible Foundation, which provides medical treatment and food to animals like dogs, cats, cows, and buffaloes, promptly responded to the situation, pushing for legal action. Stump and her organization have a longstanding history of rescuing animals and advocating for their welfare.

Disturbing Details of the Incident Unfold

According to Stump’s statement, she was informed by a woman caretaker from the foundation that Omkar Vinayak Jagtap, the accused, had called their organization earlier that day, claiming his intent to harm the dog. Stump’s organization immediately assured him that they would arrange an ambulance for the dog. Despite this, Jagtap allegedly sent a horrifying photo via WhatsApp only 10 minutes later, showing the dog hanging by a rope.

Senior police inspector Santosh Girigosavi, who heads the Paud police station, confirmed the arrest and stated that an investigation is underway. The accused reportedly claimed that he was frustrated with the dog’s behavior and initially reached out to the organization for assistance. However, after waiting two days without the promised aid, he resorted to the drastic measure.

Further Details Emerge as Investigation Continues

The police report also mentions that Jagtap allegedly sent additional disturbing content to the caretaker, including a video of a woman hitting the dog with a stick, along with a message that he no longer required an ambulance as he had already killed the dog.

Outcry from Animal Rights Activists and Public Demand for Justice

This case has led to a powerful response from the public and animal welfare advocates. Many are demanding that stricter measures and penalties be implemented for animal cruelty cases in India. The ongoing investigation and legal proceedings will determine the appropriate charges and sentencing for the accused.

In light of this tragic event, animal rights groups and citizens are emphasizing the importance of vigilance, compassion, and support for animal welfare organizations, underscoring the need for more awareness and action against animal cruelty.
