Trapped Inside as Flames Raged – Pune Bus Fire Kills Four, Injures Five
A routine commute turned into a horrifying tragedy near Pune on Wednesday morning when a minibus carrying employees of Vyoma Graphics caught fire. Four people lost their lives, while five others suffered injuries as the vehicle became engulfed in flames.
The deadly incident took place in Hinjewadi, a bustling IT hub in the Pimpri Chinchwad area, around 7:30 AM. The minibus, transporting 12 employees from Warje to Hinjewadi, suddenly caught fire near Dassault Systemes. The blaze reportedly started near the driver’s feet and quickly spread towards the front of the vehicle, prompting the driver to slow down.
Panic ensued as passengers scrambled to escape. Four individuals managed to jump out in time, but those at the rear faced a cruel fate—the emergency exit door refused to open. Trapped inside the burning vehicle, four employees were unable to make it out alive. The remaining passengers, suffering severe burns, were rushed to the hospital for treatment.
Kanhaiya Thorat, senior police inspector at Hinjewadi police station, confirmed that the fire spread rapidly, leaving little time for the victims to react. “Preliminary investigations suggest that some employees couldn’t escape because the emergency exit failed. This tragic failure cost lives,” he said.
Hinjewadi Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gaikwad stated that authorities recovered the bodies from the charred remains of the minibus. The injured are receiving medical care, and a deeper investigation into the cause of the fire and the vehicle’s safety features is underway.
