Chennai Traffic Officer Arrested in Child Sexual Assault Case
A shocking incident in Chennai has come to light, involving the sexual assault of a 13-year-old girl. A traffic police officer has been arrested following allegations of assaulting the minor after she ran away from home. The case has also implicated the girl's 16-year-old boyfriend, who is accused of similar offenses.
The distressing sequence of events began on January 25th, when the girl's mother reported her missing to the Mylapore All Women Police. The subsequent investigation led police to the girl, who was found staying with her boyfriend. During questioning, she revealed a disturbing ordeal.
The girl had left home twice on January 25th. On her first attempt, she was found sleeping on a pavement and was picked up by a traffic officer, identified as Raman. Instead of taking her home as he claimed, the officer allegedly sexually assaulted her inside his vehicle. The abuse continued at a nearby police booth, ceasing only when the girl began to scream.
Following this traumatic experience, the girl returned home. However, fearing that her mother would force her into marriage, she ran away again. This time, she sought refuge with her boyfriend and his family. It was at their residence that the police located the pair. The girl then disclosed that her boyfriend had also sexually assaulted her, allegedly under the pretense of marriage.
The police have filed charges against Raman, the boyfriend, and his mother under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act, reflecting the severity of the crimes committed against the young victim. This case highlights the vulnerability of runaway children and the urgent need for their protection.
