Kasheli Creek Bridge Repairs on Mumbai-Nashik Expressway May Cause Traffic Delays

Travelers on the Mumbai-Nashik Expressway should prepare for possible traffic slowdowns this Sunday as the Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) conducts essential maintenance on the Kasheli Creek bridge. This bridge is a vital connector, linking Mumbai with North Maharashtra and other northern regions of the country.

According to MSRDC officials, all necessary traffic approvals have been secured, and repair work is scheduled to begin at 9 AM.

"One lane will remain closed during the repairs, but traffic movement will not be entirely restricted," an official confirmed.

Concerns over the bridge's condition arose after a section of its median collapsed on January 18. However, authorities have assured that the structure remains safe for commuters.

As part of the old National Highway 3 (Agra-Bombay Road), the bridge is a key access route for vehicles traveling to and from Bhiwandi, a major logistics hub. The damaged portion—spanning 30 meters—belongs to an additional structure built in 1985.

Currently, the four-lane bridge accommodates two-way traffic. However, once a parallel bridge under construction is completed, the existing structure will be designated for Thane-bound vehicles, while the new bridge will serve traffic heading toward Nashik.

The new bridge is part of an extensive ₹1,000-crore expansion project covering a 23.5-km stretch of the Mumbai-Nashik highway, launched in 2022. So far, 70% of the new bridge is finished, with the Kasheli Creek segment alone accounting for ₹100 crore of the total budget.
