Affected Areas:

  • Significant water accumulation was reported in areas including Andheri, Kurla, Bhandup, King's Circle, Vile Parle, and Dadar.
  • The rain overwhelmed storm drains, causing traffic standstills across the city. Vehicles were seen drifting, and residents waded through knee-deep water.

Public Services Impacted:

  • The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) recorded over 300 mm of rain in a six-hour period, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and disrupting suburban rail services.
  • Schools and colleges under the BMC's jurisdiction were given a half-day holiday, with further announcements pending for the afternoon session.
  • Suburban train services and BEST bus services faced significant disruptions, with several buses being diverted from their regular routes.

  • Major highways and roads not submerged still experienced heavy traffic during the morning rush hours. The Western Expressway showed long stretches of vehicles struggling to navigate.

Weather Forecast:

  • The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasted continued heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its suburbs. The BMC advised residents to stay safe and avoid going out unless necessary.
  • A high tide of 4.2 meters is predicted around 2 pm due to the prevailing weather conditions.
