8 Former AAP MLAs Switch to BJP Just Days Before Delhi Elections

With just four days left for the Delhi Assembly elections on February 5, eight former Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) legislators have switched allegiance to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). The move comes after all eight were denied tickets by AAP for the upcoming polls.

The MLAs—Vandana Gaur (Palam), Rohit Mehraulia (Trilokpuri), Girish Soni (Madipur), Madan Lal (Kasturba Nagar), Rajesh Rishi (Uttam Nagar), B S Joon (Bijwasan), Naresh Yadav (Mehrauli), and Pawan Sharma (Adarsh Nagar)—formally joined BJP on Saturday.

Citing Discontent, MLAs Resign from AAP

A day before their BJP induction, the eight MLAs resigned from AAP, citing alleged corruption and a departure from the party’s founding principles. They also submitted their resignations to the Assembly Speaker, officially vacating their legislative positions.

In a significant political shift, former AAP MLA Vijender Garg, along with several other party leaders, also joined BJP. The induction event was attended by BJP’s national vice-president and Delhi in-charge, Baijayant Panda, along with the state party president, Virendra Sachdeva.

BJP Welcomes New Members Ahead of Elections

Baijayant Panda welcomed the former AAP leaders into BJP, calling it a pivotal moment in Delhi’s political landscape. He expressed confidence that Delhi voters would bring change in the upcoming elections.

The high-stakes Delhi Assembly elections are set for February 5, with results to be announced on February 8. As political realignments continue, this development is expected to have a notable impact on the electoral landscape.
