Haldwani Prepares for National Games Hub at Gaulapar Sports Complex

The Gaulapar Sports Complex in Haldwani is set to become the central venue for the upcoming 38th National Games. This decision not only showcases the complex’s infrastructure but also highlights Uttarakhand’s growing role in hosting large-scale national events. During the Games, the complex will be transformed into a bustling hub, complete with essential facilities for athletes and officials from across the country. The preparations have garnered a lot of attention, as the event is set to be a defining moment for Haldwani and the state’s sports scene.

Key Arrangements at Gaulapar for the National Games

The Gaulapar Sports Complex will be instrumental in ensuring that the Games proceed smoothly and efficiently. From ID card distribution to accommodation, here’s a breakdown of the major arrangements:

Centralized Accreditation Center: To facilitate a smooth experience for athletes and officials, the Gaulapar complex will serve as the primary center for issuing identification cards. Open from 8 AM to 5 PM, the center will streamline entry processes, allowing participants to easily access various facilities, dining areas, and event venues.

Accommodation Coordination: In addition to managing entry protocols, Gaulapar will also oversee lodging arrangements. Accommodation will be assigned at the complex, allowing teams to settle in quickly and focus on their preparations. For those arriving late, direct hotel access will be provided, with credentials distributed the next morning.

Game-Ready Infrastructure: Major improvements and repairs worth approximately ₹13 crores are underway at the Gaulapar complex. These renovations aim to ensure that facilities are safe, modern, and athlete-friendly. Key upgrades include the installation of 48 lights around the Haldwani football field, creating visibility for evening matches, and the addition of a three-lane jogging track and grass turf.

Ongoing Inspections and Preparations

To guarantee that the facilities meet national standards, Uttarakhand’s Sports Director, Prashant Arya, recently conducted a thorough inspection of all event venues in Haldwani and Gaulapar. During his inspection, he noted a few technical issues requiring immediate attention:

Ventilation in Kho-Kho Hall: The ventilation system in the Kho-Kho hall was found to be underperforming. The assistant engineer from the Uttarakhand Drinking Water Corporation has been tasked with resolving this issue to ensure proper air circulation.

Repairs in the Table Tennis Hall: A damaged ceiling in the table tennis area was also highlighted during the inspection. Notably, this issue was raised earlier this year, emphasizing the need for urgent repairs.

Additional Facility Enhancements: Equipment upgrades are planned for the gym, along with proposed renovations for the swimming pool, Taekwondo, and Wushu halls. A proposal has also been submitted to introduce new amenities in the cricket stadium, which will host the closing ceremony.

The inspection team, including several district and state sports officials, affirmed that all arrangements would be finalized by the end of November to ensure that every detail is in place for a seamless event.

Additional Lighting and Facilities at Haldwani Stadium

The Haldwani football field, located within the Sports Stadium, will be fitted with 48 high-power lights around its perimeter, allowing for evening matches with adequate lighting. To further enhance the complex, a three-lane jogging track and natural grass turf will be added around the field, enriching the venue’s appeal and functionality. The estimated budget for these additions stands at ₹2 crores.

The Gaulapar Sports Complex’s transformation into the main center for the 38th National Games is a landmark event for Haldwani and Uttarakhand. The extensive upgrades, strategic planning, and coordinated efforts by the state’s sports authorities reflect the significance of hosting the Games. As the event nears, excitement builds, and Haldwani is set to become a focal point for sports in India.
