Heavy Rainfall Causes Traffic Snarls in Hyderabad; IMD Issues Yellow Warning for Next Five Days
Since late Sunday evening, heavy rainfall has been lashing Hyderabad, causing traffic snarls in different parts of the city. In an emergency advisory, the directorate of enforcement vigilance and disaster management has urged people to avoid stepping out of their homes for the next couple of hours unless it is essential.
From late evening hours, several areas in the city, including Kukatpally, Quthbullapur, Lingamapally, JNTU, Bachupally, Dhulapally, Pragathi Nagar, Uppal, Nacharam, Kothapet, Mallapur, Habsiguda, Nagole, Boduppal, Medipally, Kapra, Dammaiguda, Keesara, Mallapur, Begumpet, Alwal, Malkajgiri, Neredmet, Tirumalagiri, Karkhana, and parts of Secunderabad, have received moderate rain showers with lightning and gusty winds. In other parts of the city, such as Secunderabad, Shaikpet, Bandlaguda, Toli Chowki, Tank Bund, Film Nagar, Jubilee Hills, Biodiversity, Langer Houz, Nanakramguda, Manikonda, Asifnagar, Attapur, Rajendranagar, Khairatabad, Namapally, and parts of the old city, showers with gusty winds have also been reported.
According to the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), a trough from east Vidarbha to north interior Tamil Nadu across Telangana and interior Karnata will continue to bring rains in the state. Thunderstorms with lightning have occurred in many places across the state, including Adilabad, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Jagtial, Jangaon, Karimnagar, Kumaram Bheem, Mahbubabad, Jayashankar Bhupalapally, Kamareddy, Mancherial, Mulugu, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Peddapalli, Rajanna Siricilla, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Siddipet, and Yadadri Bhvangiri. Vikarabad, Hanamkonda, and Warangal have experienced intense rains with thunderstorms during the late evening.
The Telangana State Development and Planning Society reported that Kamareddy had the highest rainfall of 47 mm, followed by Hanumkonda at 46.5 mm and Jangoan at 46.3 mm.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for the next five days, predicting heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds at a speed of 40-50 kmph in many districts.
Over the next two days, Hyderabad is expected to have a generally cloudy sky, and light to moderate rains are very likely to occur. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to drop to 31 degree and 21 degree respectively.
