20-year-old arrested for murder at REVA University campus festival in Bengaluru

A 20-year-old man has been apprehended by the police in connection with the murder of Bhaskar Jetty H, a student at REVA University in northeastern Bengaluru. The tragic event unfolded on April 28, during the much-anticipated college festival Revothsava-2023, which took place on the university campus. The suspect, identified as Bharatesh N A, is a resident of Channasandra and one of the two individuals allegedly involved in the fatal attack on the eighth-semester mechanical engineering student.

Laxmi Prasad, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast), has confirmed that further investigations are underway to track down the other individuals implicated in the crime. The university, located in Kattigenahalli near Yelahanka, was hosting the two-day festival, which drew numerous attendees, making the incident even more alarming.

Bhaskar Jetty H, a 22-year-old originally from Vadodara, Gujarat, was tragically stabbed multiple times in the chest and shoulder during a confrontation that erupted between two groups of students. The violent altercation occurred between 9:55 PM and 10:20 PM on April 28, leading to severe injuries for Jetty. Initially, police reports did not clarify the motive behind the altercation; however, they have since revealed that the fight broke out over a dance performance that was part of the college festivities.

Sources indicate that Bharatesh, a second-year Bachelor of Engineering student at REVA University, was the individual who wielded the knife that fatally wounded Jetty. Witness accounts, including that of Dr. M L Kalicharan, a law faculty member at the university, shed light on the chaotic scene. Dr. Kalicharan reported witnessing a student bleeding profusely—later identified as Jetty—while another student fled the area with a knife concealed behind him. The situation escalated further, as Dr. Kalicharan noted that he observed another student sitting atop a third student and striking him with an iron rod.

The other injured student, known only as Kumar, is currently receiving medical attention. Police are actively working to locate the individual responsible for the assault on Kumar, adding another layer to the ongoing investigation. As the authorities delve deeper into the case, they are scrutinizing witness statements and examining video footage from the festival to gather more evidence.

This tragic event raises serious concerns about safety during large gatherings and the potential for violence among students. The REVA University community is in shock, as students and faculty alike grapple with the implications of such a violent incident occurring on their campus. As police continue to investigate, they urge anyone with information related to the incident to come forward.

The murder of Bhaskar Jetty H has ignited discussions on the need for enhanced security measures at educational institutions, especially during events that attract large crowds. The university administration is expected to address the situation in the coming days, focusing on student safety and well-being.

As the investigation progresses, it serves as a stark reminder of the importance of conflict resolution and the need for awareness of the potential consequences of violence. The tragic loss of a young life not only impacts the immediate community but also raises awareness about the need for safer campus environments across the country.

Authorities are committed to ensuring justice for Bhaskar Jetty H and are determined to bring all individuals involved in this senseless act of violence to justice. The REVA University community, now mourning the loss of one of their own, stands united in hope for a resolution to this heartbreaking incident.
