Family Faces Brutal Attack After Sending Daughter Away to Escape Harassment

In a disturbing incident from Haldwani's Mukhani area, a family’s attempt to shield their daughter from persistent harassment ended in violence. After sending the young woman to her uncle’s home for safety, a furious group of youths, led by the accused, broke into the family's house and launched a brutal assault, leaving her brother seriously injured.

The young woman had been constantly harassed by a local youth who would follow her and pass lewd comments. Despite warning him and even complaining to his family, the harassment continued. Worried about her safety and their reputation, the girl's mother finally decided to send her to her maternal uncle’s house.

However, this decision enraged the accused. On Wednesday night, he, along with three to four of his friends, stormed into the girl's home in a fit of anger. They attacked her brother with an iron rod, leaving him severely injured. When the mother tried to intervene, she too was assaulted without mercy.

Neighbors, hearing the commotion, rushed to help and managed to get the injured mother and son to the Base Hospital. The young man’s injuries were so serious that he required nine stitches to his head.

Following the incident, a formal complaint was lodged. A case has been registered against the main accused and his accomplices under various charges, including causing injuries with weapons and deliberate public insult. The matter is under investigation, and the police have assured strict action against the culprits.

This incident highlights how even after raising their voice, many families continue to face threats and violence, simply for seeking safety and dignity for their loved ones.
