Brave Woman Jumps Off Moving Train to Escape Attack Near Hyderabad

A terrifying incident unfolded near Hyderabad when a 23-year-old woman jumped from a moving MMTS train to escape an attempted sexual assault inside the ladies' coach. The shocking event, which took place on the night of March 22 near Suchitra, left her with serious injuries. Despite her condition, she managed to file a complaint with the Government Railway Police (GRP) the following day.

A Routine Journey Turns Into a Nightmare

The young woman, who works in the inventory department of a food service delivery company in Hyderabad, was returning home after getting her phone repaired. She had purchased a general ticket to Medchal and boarded the ladies’ coach of an MMTS train at 7:15 pm from Secunderabad Railway Station.

During the journey, around 8:15 pm, two other female passengers exited the train at Alwal, leaving her alone in the compartment. At some point, an unidentified man—described as being around 25 years old, thin, and dark-skinned—entered the coach.

A Desperate Attempt to Escape

The woman recounted that the man approached her and began demanding sexual favors. When she resisted, he attempted to assault her. Trapped inside the moving train with no immediate help, she made a split-second decision to jump out to save herself.

As she hit the ground, she sustained severe injuries to her head, chin, right hand, and waist. Passersby quickly called an ambulance, and she was rushed to Gandhi Hospital for treatment. The victim later informed the police that she could identify her attacker if she saw him again.

Authorities Take Action

GRP Superintendent of Police Chandana Deepthi stated that the accused forcefully grabbed the woman and demanded that she accompany him to his room. Fearing for her safety, she initially pretended to comply. The moment he loosened his grip, she took her chance and leaped out of the train.

Officials confirmed that the victim had contacted the police emergency helpline (Dial 100) while speaking with the attacker, and they are now reviewing those records as part of the investigation.

Outrage and Support Pour In

Despite the horrific ordeal, the woman’s condition is now stable. Union Minister of State for Home Bandi Sanjay assured her of the best possible medical care and arranged for her transfer to Yashoda Hospital for further treatment. Meanwhile, BJP Mahila Morcha state president Shilpa Reddy has stepped in to assist the victim and her family.

The incident has sparked widespread outrage, with BRS working president KT Rama Rao calling for a swift investigation. He urged Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw to take immediate action and ensure justice for the victim. BRS MLC K Kavitha also voiced concerns over the deteriorating safety of women in the city, emphasizing the urgent need for stronger security measures in public transport.

As authorities work to track down the accused, the shocking case serves as a grim reminder of the dangers women continue to face, even in spaces meant exclusively for their safety.
