Domestic Dispute Turns Tragic: Stenographer Kills Wife in Pune

A chilling incident unfolded in Pune on Wednesday when a 37-year-old stenographer, Shivdas Tukaram Gitte, tragically ended the life of his wife, Jyoti Shivdas Gitte (28), during a heated domestic argument. The couple, residents of Tulja Bhavani Nagar, Kharadi, were facing mounting financial pressures, including a failed stenography exam for Shivdas and a loan taken for home repairs in their native Beed district.

Jyoti, a hardworking woman who worked as a housemaid and tailor, was understandably concerned about their family's financial stability. She urged her husband to dedicate himself to his studies and pass the crucial stenography exam. However, these well-intentioned words of support unfortunately escalated the situation.

Around 3:30 am on Wednesday, a heated argument erupted between the couple. In a fit of rage, Shivdas fatally stabbed his wife in the throat with a pair of scissors.

Later that morning, around 7 am, Shivdas, accompanied by his six-year-old son, reported the tragic incident to the Chandannagar police.

Shivdas, who had been employed as a stenographer at the Shivajinagar court for the past three years, was recently unsuccessful in the mandatory re-qualification exam. This setback, coupled with their financial difficulties, appears to have significantly impacted his emotional state.

The Chandannagar police have arrested Shivdas and produced him in court. He has been remanded to police custody for four days.

This heartbreaking incident serves as a stark reminder of the devastating consequences of unresolved domestic disputes. It also highlights the importance of seeking support and professional help to address issues like financial stress and relationship challenges before they escalate into tragedy.
