Kondhwa Police Foil Extortion Attempt, Arrest Seven in Bopdev Ghat Assault Case

In a commendable operation, the Kondhwa Police have arrested seven individuals involved in a violent assault and extortion case in the Bopdev Ghat area, located near Trinity College. The accused were caught attempting to assert their criminal dominance in the region, and the police seized sharp weapons during the arrest.

The incident occurred on January 16, 2025, around 1:00 PM when a violent dispute erupted among a group of young individuals on a public road. Vishwajeet Babaji Hulwale, 19, became the victim after being attacked with a sword during the altercation. Hulwale filed a complaint with the police, leading to the registration of a case under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) 2023, including armed assault and extortion.

Acting on intelligence, the Kondhwa Police launched a swift investigation under the guidance of Senior Police Inspector Vinay Patankar, supported by Inspectors Abdul Rauf Shaikh and Suraj Bendre. The investigation team traced the accused to a flat in Yeolewadi, specifically Singapore Homes, Flat No. 301. During a raid, the following individuals were apprehended:

• Bhavesh Balasaheb Kunjeer, 23 (Saswad, Pune)
• Atharv Kailas Pawar, 21 (Ghorpadi, Pune)
• Suraj Sachin Raut, 21 (Saswad, Pune)
• Aryan Vilas Pawar, 18 (Ghorpadi, Pune)
• Saurabh Pradeep Londhe, 18 (Dhanakawdi, Pune)
• Raj Digambar Ronge, 19 (Yeolewadi, Pune)
• Varun Baban Bhosale, 21 (Jejuri, Purandar, Pune)

The arrested individuals confessed to their involvement in the assault and extortion. In addition, the police seized weapons and vehicles, valued at approximately ₹3,80,000, in connection with the crime.

The successful operation was led by Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police Ranjankumar Sharma, and Assistant Commissioner of Police Manoj Patil, with valuable support from the investigation team. The authorities emphasized their commitment to combatting criminal activity in the region and assured residents that they will continue to monitor and take strict action as necessary.

While the investigation continues, the police are focusing on identifying any additional individuals involved in the criminal activities. Local authorities have reiterated their promise to protect the safety and well-being of residents in the area, with continued surveillance on criminal behavior.
