Pune Teen’s Life Ends in Tragic Chopper Assault
In a heart-wrenching episode that has left Pune reeling, a 17-year-old boy, Yash Sunil Ghate, lost his life in a brutal attack on a quiet Tuesday morning. The incident, which unfolded in the Ramtekdi area near Jama Masjid, is a stark reminder of how simmering disputes can erupt into unimaginable violence.
Yash, a resident of Wanawadi, was on his way to college with his friends—Aditya Chavan, Rehan Pathan, and Shreyash Shinde—when tragedy struck. The group was walking through Ramtekdi when two young men, identified as Sahil Latif Sheikh and Tahir Khalil Pathan, approached them from behind. What seemed like an ordinary morning took a horrifying turn as the accused launched a savage attack, striking Yash with a chopper.
The sheer brutality of the assault left Yash critically wounded, and his friends could do little but rush him to the nearest hospital in a desperate attempt to save his life. Despite their efforts, the doctors could only confirm the worst—Yash was declared dead on arrival. The gravity of the loss was felt deeply, not only by his family and friends but also by the larger community in the area.
Police acted with remarkable speed, apprehending the two suspects within hours of the crime. Both Sahil and Tahir, residents of Ramtekdi, Hadapsar, now face serious charges. According to Deputy Commissioner of Police R Raja, the attack appears to have stemmed from an unresolved altercation between Yash and the accused, turning a lingering dispute into a deadly confrontation.
The incident has sparked widespread discussions in Pune about youth violence and the devastating impact of unresolved conflicts. For Yash’s family, the loss is irreplaceable, while the community struggles to come to terms with such a senseless act of aggression. As the investigation continues, this tragedy serves as a chilling reminder of the need for early conflict resolution and the consequences of letting anger spiral out of control.
