Cyclone Fengal Brings Chilly Weather and Showers to Bengaluru
Bengaluru is set to experience a significant shift in its weather pattern as Cyclone Fengal moves towards the city, bringing moderate to heavy rainfall over the next two days. Starting December 1, 2024, the city will be under a yellow alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD), signaling the onset of heavy showers. With the mercury dipping, residents can expect temperatures to hover between a cool 20°C to 23°C, making the days ahead feel refreshing and chilly.
On December 1, Bengaluru woke up to cloudy skies and the promise of moderate rainfall throughout the day. The sun will set at 5:51 PM, but before then, the city will continue to experience a steady drizzle and overcast conditions. As the rain comes down, the humidity will rise to 84%, making the air feel more refreshing but also a bit damp. Winds will blow steadily from the north at speeds of around 21 km/h, and the air quality is expected to remain moderate, with an Air Quality Index (AQI) of 54.
For the next few days, Bengaluru's temperatures will stay within the 20-23°C range, though the IMD predicts that they may drop as low as 12°C in the coming days. The weather is expected to stay partly cloudy throughout the day, with moderate rainfall due to the ongoing influence of Cyclone Fengal. The IMD has warned that thunderstorms, lightning, and squalls are likely to impact the South Interior Karnataka region. In fact, an orange alert has been issued for the area for December 2 and 3, when heavy rainfall and thunderstorms are expected to intensify.
In addition to the rainfall in Bengaluru, other parts of Karnataka will also face weather disruptions. The IMD has forecast widespread moderate rain and thundershowers across South Interior Karnataka, with the most intense weather expected in the coming days. An orange alert for heavy to very heavy rain and thunderstorms has been issued, as the cyclone moves closer. Meanwhile, yellow alerts have been issued for coastal areas and North Interior Karnataka on December 3 and 4, signaling continued rainfall but with less intensity.
As Bengaluru gears up for these changing weather conditions, residents are advised to stay updated on weather warnings and take precautions against the potential impacts of Cyclone Fengal. The rains, while a welcome relief from the city's usual warmth, also bring the need for careful monitoring of the roads, especially with the predicted thunderstorms and squalls. Whether you're out and about or staying indoors, the cool and wet weather is expected to dominate the city for the next few days, making this a perfect time to stay cozy and enjoy the rainy season.
