Class 9 Student Attacks Peer Over Annual Day Dispute in Pune School: Details Inside
In a shocking incident at a reputed international school in Pune, a minor dispute over Annual Day preparations escalated into violence, leaving a Class 9 student injured. The altercation between two classmates, aged 15 and 14, took a serious turn when one of them allegedly attacked the other with a piece of glass, causing severe injuries.
The Incident: What Happened?
The altercation occurred on Tuesday afternoon around 2:30 pm, inside a classroom where no teachers were present. According to police reports, the accused, reportedly enraged during a quarrel, attacked the victim from behind and attempted to slit his throat with a shard of glass. The accused also allegedly threatened to kill the victim, further intensifying the gravity of the situation.
The dispute began as a petty argument about organizing the school’s Annual Day function but quickly spiraled out of control, leading to the violent confrontation.
Immediate Response and Police Action
The injured student was swiftly admitted to a local hospital by teachers and school staff. Thankfully, the medical team has confirmed that his condition is stable.
Local authorities, led by Senior Police Inspector Santosh Pandhare, arrived promptly at the scene to investigate the matter. The accused student was detained under charges of attempt to murder, as per Sections 109 and 351 (3) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Following the protocol for minors, he was presented before the Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) and has since been sent to an observation home.
Absence of Supervision: A Concerning Factor
At the time of the incident, no teacher was present in the classroom. The school administration revealed that faculty members were preoccupied with Annual Day preparations being conducted elsewhere on the campus. This lack of supervision has raised serious concerns about the safety protocols in place during such events.
What’s Next?
Assistant Police Inspector Ketaki Chavan assured that the victim is recovering well. Meanwhile, Umesh Rokade, the case’s investigating officer, confirmed that the probe is ongoing. Authorities are thoroughly examining the circumstances leading to the incident, including potential lapses in school safety measures.
Lessons for Schools and Parents
This unfortunate event underscores the importance of proactive supervision and conflict resolution mechanisms in educational institutions. Schools must ensure that students are not left unsupervised during sensitive times, such as event preparations.
Additionally, parents and educators should emphasize the significance of emotional regulation and peaceful conflict resolution to prevent such violent outbursts among students.
