Tragic Road Collision Casts Shadow Over Diwali Celebrations in Haldwani

A severe road accident turned Diwali into a day of sorrow for a family in Haldwani, where two cars collided head-on, claiming two lives and leaving three others with critical injuries. The accident occurred on the Haldwani-Kaladungi road, close to the Amaltas Villa area. In a heart-wrenching turn, a mother and son lost their lives on the spot, while three others were rushed to Sushila Tiwari Hospital for emergency care.

According to Mukhani Police Station Officer Vijay Mehta, the accident happened Friday when an Alto, traveling from Kaladungi toward Haldwani, collided head-on with a Volkswagen coming from the opposite direction. The impact was so intense that both vehicles were severely mangled. Preliminary reports suggest that speeding and lack of caution contributed to the tragic collision, transforming the festive atmosphere into a scene of devastation.

In the Alto, 40-year-old Kamlesh Singh and his 60-year-old mother Bhavna Singh tragically succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Kamlesh’s wife, also named Bhavna, 35, sustained severe injuries and was taken to the hospital. Two occupants in the Volkswagen, a man and a woman, also suffered injuries and are receiving treatment at the same hospital. As doctors work to stabilize the victims, the community mourns the sudden and heartbreaking losses.

Officer Mehta explained that early assessments indicate that both speed and driver negligence may have caused the collision. CCTV footage captured near the site reveals the extreme force of the impact, highlighting the urgency of adhering to road safety measures. Authorities have sent the victims’ bodies for postmortem and are continuing investigations to confirm all factors involved in the crash.

For the Singh family, Diwali will now forever be associated with the loss of loved ones. What should have been a joyful celebration turned into an enduring tragedy, underscoring the dangers of speed and the need for vigilance on busy roads. Local residents have expressed their sorrow and are urging for heightened awareness to prevent such incidents in the future.
