Tragic Incident in Pune Neighbourhood Over Parking Dispute Ends in Fatal Shooting

A shocking incident unfolded in Pune’s Ashoknagar area late Thursday night when a parking dispute turned deadly, leading to the fatal shooting of a resident. The altercation between two neighbors—one of whom was a former serviceman—escalated, resulting in the loss of life.

The confrontation occurred around 10:45 p.m. and involved 45-year-old Shrikant Shamrao Patil, an ex-serviceman from the Yerawada locality. Patil allegedly shot his neighbor, Shahanawaz Mulani, using a double-barrel gun during an intense argument over a parking space. Despite being rushed to the hospital, Mulani succumbed to his injuries while receiving medical care.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Himmat Jadhav, the dispute erupted suddenly, and before the situation could be de-escalated, it escalated into a tragic act of violence. Patil was immediately apprehended by law enforcement authorities, and a formal investigation is underway. Police officials confirmed that the case has been registered under several sections, including Sections 109, 352, and 351(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, alongside Sections 3(25) and 3(27) of the Arms Act. The Maharashtra Police Act also applies, under Sections 37 (1)(3) and 135, reflecting the severity of the charges faced by the accused.

Community Concerns and Rising Tensions

The incident has left the Ashoknagar community shaken, with residents expressing concern over the rising number of disputes turning violent. Parking-related conflicts have been a source of contention in densely populated areas, where space constraints often lead to friction among neighbors. Local leaders are urging residents to seek peaceful resolutions, emphasizing the need for increased community awareness and intervention.

This case highlights the need for preventive measures and open dialogue within communities to address issues before they spiral out of control. As the investigation progresses, Pune’s law enforcement is reinforcing efforts to maintain safety and avoid similar tragic events in the future.
