Change in Role and Location for Gregory Bovino
The officials said that Bovino will return to the border in El Centro, California. They stated that he will lose his "commander" title and resume his previous position as Border Patrol sector chief in El Centro. The officials also said that he will no longer oversee Border Patrol agents making immigration arrests in interior cities in the United States.
Adjustments to Minneapolis Border Patrol Presence
An administration official and a law enforcement official said that U.S. Customs and Border Protection plans to reduce the number of agents in Minneapolis this week. They said the size of the reduction is still under discussion.
Operation Metro Surge and Public Role
Bovino had served as the public face of the Department of Homeland Security's operation in Minneapolis, which was referred to as "Operation Metro Surge." His expected departure from Minneapolis coincides with the planned reduction in agents there, as described by administration and law enforcement officials.
DHS Spokesperson Addresses Bovino’s Status

In the same message, she described Bovino as "a key part of the President's team and a great American."
