Police Identify Pedestrian Killed in Feb. 16 Crash on Tucson’s Southwest Side
Pedestrian Fatally Struck at Tucson Intersection on Feb. 16
Police have identified the woman killed on February 16 in a vehicle collision at an intersection on Tucson's southwest side as 25-year-old Rebecca Inez Garcia. The Tucson Police Department released her name in a news statement issued on Sunday.
The incident occurred at approximately 6:15 p.m. on February 16 at the intersection of West Ajo Way and South Mission Road. At the time of the crash, Garcia was standing at the southwest corner of the intersection.
Sequence of Collision Involving Two Vehicles
According to information from the Tucson Police Department, the collision began when two vehicles made contact in the intersection. A green Jeep Renegade, driven by a 55-year-old woman whose name has not been released, was turning left from northbound South Mission Road onto westbound West Ajo Way.
As the Jeep Renegade made the left turn, it was struck by a southbound black Dodge Charger. The Charger was driven by a 30-year-old man, whose name has also not been released by authorities.
Impact on Bystander and Declared Fatality
After the initial impact between the Jeep Renegade and the Dodge Charger, the Charger continued through the intersection. The vehicle then struck Garcia, who was a pedestrian standing at the southwest corner of West Ajo Way and South Mission Road.
Emergency responders declared Rebecca Inez Garcia dead at the scene of the crash. No additional injuries or fatalities were reported in the information released.
Police Statement on Driver Speed
Police stated that the driver of the black Dodge Charger was speeding at the time of the crash. Authorities have not released the names of either driver involved in the collision. No further details on charges or additional outcomes were provided in the available information.
