Parents Lose Lakhs as FIIT JEE Coaching Centres Shut Down in Pune
Over 300 students and their parents in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad have been left in distress as FIIT JEE coaching centres abruptly shut down. This sudden closure has resulted in parents losing substantial amounts of money paid as fees. A police complaint has been lodged by a group of parents at the Chinchwad police station.
The affected coaching centres are located in Pimpri-Chinchwad and Swargate. These centres have been operational for several years, catering to students from Class 8 onwards, with fees exceeding ₹2.5 lakhs per annum. The curriculum includes a foundation course for Classes 8 to 10, followed by intensive JEE exam preparation for Classes 11 and 12.
Pritam Pande, whose daughter was attending the Pimpri-Chinchwad centre, shared his experience: “A week ago, the centre head informed us unofficially about the impending closure. Subsequently, we learned that staff salaries and rent had not been paid. Since Monday, we have been visiting the centre daily, seeking information about classes and refunds.”
The situation has escalated as parents discovered that other FIIT JEE centres across the country have also closed. Parents, unable to find staff at the centres, turned to the police for help. Jitendra Koli, senior police inspector at the Chinchwad police station, confirmed that an inquiry is underway, and further action will be taken based on the findings.
One parent, who had taken a personal loan of ₹3 lakhs to pay for the coaching fees, expressed his frustration: “My son is now in Class 12, and other coaching classes are demanding higher fees since we did not enroll there earlier.”
The sudden shutdown has left many families in financial turmoil, highlighting the need for stricter regulations and oversight of private coaching institutions.
