Pune Police Crack Down on Drunk Driving: Licenses to be Revoked
Pune Police Implement Strict Measures Against Drunk Driving
In response to a surge in drunk driving incidents, Pune Police have decided to take stringent actions, including revoking driving licenses. Over the past six months, 1,684 individuals in Pune have been booked for driving under the influence. Previously, such offenses primarily resulted in case filings, but now the consequences are more severe.
Drivers caught driving drunk will face immediate license revocation. For a first offense, the license will be revoked for three months. A second offense will lead to a six-month cancellation, and a third offense will result in permanent revocation of the driver's license, according to Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohidas Pawar.
Awareness Campaign: Roses for Traffic Violators
In addition to the crackdown on drunk driving, Pune Police are also addressing other traffic violations. In central Pune, where traffic rules are often ignored, an innovative awareness campaign has been launched. The Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) sports cell distributed roses to drivers violating 'No Entry' signs at Chitrashala Chowk on Lakshmi Road. This initiative, led by Vice President Rahul Dekhne under the guidance of NCP City President Prashant Jagtap, aims to educate drivers about the importance of following traffic rules.
Starting July 10, police have promised stricter enforcement against 'No Entry' violations. Rahul Dekhne highlighted the reckless driving habits in the city's Peth areas, leading to traffic jams and safety concerns. Statements have been submitted to local police stations to address this issue.
Addressing Traffic Violations in Key Areas
Several roads in Pune, including Chitrashala to Bhanuvilas Talkies and Hatti Ganapati to Durvankur, are designated as one-way streets. However, violations are common, especially in areas frequented by students preparing for competitive exams and shoppers on Lakshmi Road and Kumthekar Road. This non-compliance contributes to traffic congestion and accidents, underscoring the need for more effective traffic management and enforcement.
With these measures, Pune Police aim to enhance road safety and reduce the incidence of drunk driving and other traffic violations, ensuring a safer environment for all residents.
