Mumbai Pune Expressway Panvel Exit Closed for Six Months Alternative Routes Announced

Commuters traveling from Pune to Mumbai should take note—starting February 11, the Mumbai exit at Panvel on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway will be shut down for six months due to ongoing construction at Kalamboli Circle. The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) is undertaking a major infrastructure upgrade, which includes the construction of a new flyover and underpass to enhance traffic flow at the Kalamboli Junction.

Impact of Road Closure

The closure will affect all types of vehicles, including both light and heavy transport, traveling toward Panvel, Mumbra, and JNPT. According to traffic authorities, this restriction will remain in effect around the clock to ensure seamless progress on the project and to mitigate traffic congestion in the area.

Alternative Routes for Commuters

To minimize inconvenience, drivers are advised to follow these alternative routes:

For those traveling to Panvel, Goa, and JNPT: Vehicles will be redirected at Konphata, approximately 9.6 km away, onto NH-48 via Palaspe Circle.

For commuters heading to Taloja, Kalyan, and Shilphata from Pune to Mumbai: Continue straight for 1.2 km onto the Panvel-Sion Highway, then take a right under the Purusharth Petrol Pump flyover. From there, follow the route through Roadpali and merge onto NH-48.

Traffic Management Measures

The road restriction is enforced under the Motor Vehicles Act, as confirmed by Navi Mumbai Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Tirupati Kakade. He assured commuters that once the construction is completed, traffic congestion at Kalamboli Circle will see a significant reduction, ultimately improving the overall commute experience in the region.

Commuters are advised to plan their routes in advance and allow extra travel time to accommodate detours during the construction period.
