Pune Ring Road Construction to Begin in February 2025
Rs 42,000-Crore Project Set for Completion by 2027
The highly anticipated Pune Ring Road project, designed to alleviate traffic congestion in the Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad areas, is set to commence in February 2025. With a target completion date of June 2027, the ₹42,000 crore project promises to transform local transportation dynamics.
Project Overview:
The Pune Ring Road will span 170 kilometers and aims to direct heavy traffic from neighboring cities like Nashik, Solapur, Satara, and Ahilyanagar away from the crowded urban roads. Additionally, the project will integrate with Metro and BRTS routes, enhancing the overall public transportation network and accessibility.
Key components of the project include:
- Western Ring Road (69 km): Beginning at Urse, this section will link to the Pune-Satara Road and manage traffic from the Mumbai-Pune Expressway and the Satara region.
- Eastern Ring Road (101 km): This route will connect several important highways, including those from Solapur, Nashik, and Ahmednagar.
The project is divided into 12 sections, with all tenders already issued, ensuring that construction progresses smoothly across all areas simultaneously.
Land Acquisition and Infrastructure Development:
- Western section: Land acquisition for this portion is nearly complete, with 99% of the required land secured.
- Eastern section: Approximately 86% of the land has been acquired, with full acquisition expected to be finalized by March 2025.
The Ring Road project also involves the construction of 15 tunnels and numerous bridges, including one that will span the Khadakwasla Dam, adding to the project’s ambitious scale and complexity.
Key Benefits of the Pune Ring Road:
- Reduced Traffic Congestion: By diverting heavy vehicles, the Ring Road will significantly alleviate traffic pressure on Pune’s city roads, improving overall flow.
- Faster Commutes: The efficient movement of trucks and commercial vehicles will streamline transport, reducing travel time across the region.
- Economic Growth: The improved connectivity between key industrial areas such as Talegaon and Chakan will drive economic development and boost local industries.
As Pune's traffic issues continue to intensify, the Ring Road project is expected to provide a major solution, enhancing road efficiency and contributing to the city’s growing infrastructure needs.
