Bengaluru Techie Dies by Suicide After Alleged Blackmail by Uncle and Aunt
A tragic incident unfolded as a 24-year-old software engineer took her own life by setting herself ablaze in a Bengaluru hotel room. The young woman was reportedly blackmailed by her uncle and aunt, who threatened to expose her private photos and videos, police revealed on Thursday.
The woman’s uncle, identified as the prime accused in the case, has been arrested, and an investigation is underway.
Blackmail Led to Tragic End
The incident occurred on Sunday evening at Radha Hometel, located near the Kundalahalli metro station. According to the Whitefield Deputy Commissioner of Police Shivakumar Gunar, the uncle had coerced the woman into meeting him at the hotel. Although initially hesitant, she reportedly agreed after being threatened that her private photos and videos would be shared with her parents if she refused.
Once inside the hotel room, the woman carried out the act of self-immolation. She had brought petrol with her, poured it on herself, and set herself on fire. She was rushed to the hospital but succumbed to her injuries.
A Disturbing Relationship
The woman’s mother revealed that her daughter had been living with the uncle and aunt for the past six years and had even accompanied them on trips. This relationship turned toxic when the uncle began using her private content as leverage.
The police have seized a pen drive from the accused uncle's possession, which could serve as critical evidence in the case.
Legal Action and Investigation
A case has been registered at the HAL Police Station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita. The uncle and aunt are being investigated for their roles in the blackmail and the events that led to the woman’s tragic death.
The police have assured a thorough probe to uncover the full extent of the crime and ensure justice for the victim.
Community Shocked and Grieving
The incident has sent shockwaves through the tech community and local residents. Many have expressed outrage over the abuse of trust and the extreme emotional duress faced by the young woman.
This case serves as a grim reminder of the importance of addressing blackmail and exploitation, as well as providing support to individuals facing such situations. Authorities are urging anyone experiencing similar threats to come forward and seek help.
