Bengaluru Actor Arrested for Firing Gun Over Financial Dispute in Film Project

On Tuesday, Bengaluru police arrested Kannada television actor Thandaveshwar after he allegedly opened fire at the office of film director Bharat Navunda. The incident, which unfolded on the evening of Monday, took place in Chandra Layout, where an escalating argument over a stalled film project led to dangerous consequences. Thandaveshwar, who had invested his own money into the film, fired his licensed gun into the air, striking the roof. The argument, witnessed by others in the office, was related to financial disagreements over the film "Devanampriya."

The roots of the conflict go back two years when Thandaveshwar and Navunda teamed up to create "Devanampriya." Faced with difficulties in securing a producer, Thandaveshwar put in Rs 6 lakh of his own funds to get the project off the ground. However, the progress of the film remained sluggish, leading to further tensions. When a producer from Hassan eventually joined the project, expectations were high, but the project still struggled to move forward. Frustrated by the lack of financial progress, Thandaveshwar demanded repayment of his investment, which intensified the dispute between the two men.

On Monday evening, Thandaveshwar went to Navunda's office to resolve the matter. According to police, the argument became heated, and in the heat of the moment, Thandaveshwar drew his gun and fired into the air, causing alarm among those present. Fortunately, no one was injured, but the event was unsettling. The police swiftly arrived at the scene, and Thandaveshwar was taken into custody.

Bengaluru's Commissioner of Police, B Dayananda, confirmed the arrest, noting that the preliminary investigation suggested the shooting was intentional and related to the ongoing financial dispute. The actor now faces serious charges under Section 109 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code, as well as violations of the Indian Arms Act, including sections 3 (license for acquisition and possession of firearms and ammunition), 27 (punishment for using arms), and 30 (contravention of license or rules).

This shocking turn of events has not only shaken the local film industry but also raised concerns about the dangers of unchecked emotions in business dealings. As the investigation continues, it highlights the importance of resolving financial disputes in a professional and non-violent manner, rather than resorting to aggressive actions that can have serious consequences.

This incident serves as a stark reminder of how personal grievances, if left unchecked, can escalate into dangerous situations. While the case is still under investigation, the arrest of Thandaveshwar underscores the gravity of the matter and the need for accountability. As Bengaluru police continue their inquiry, both Thandaveshwar and Navunda’s professional futures now hang in the balance, with the outcome of this case likely influencing their reputations within the industry.
