Tragic Accident on Pune-Mumbai Expressway Claims Life of IT Professional, Injures Two Family Members
In a tragic accident on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway, a 36-year-old IT professional, Prasad Nandkishor Kolte, lost his life, while his mother and cousin sustained injuries after their car collided with a military truck. Police have filed charges against the military truck driver for alleged rash driving and causing death due to negligence. The incident took place around 7:30 p.m. on October 27 near Gahunje, disrupting what was intended to be a routine journey.
Initial reports from the investigation reveal that the military truck, which belongs to a defense unit in Pune, came to an abrupt halt on the expressway. Unable to stop in time, the car carrying Kolte, his 69-year-old mother Surekha, and his cousin Dr. Prashant Rane, collided with the truck from behind. The impact was severe, resulting in fatal injuries for Kolte, while his mother and cousin were rushed to a nearby hospital for treatment.
Inspector Tejaswini Kadam, in charge of Shirgaon Parandwadi police station, confirmed that a case has been filed based on Dr. Rane’s complaint. The police are investigating the cause behind the truck’s sudden stop, which led to the devastating collision. The driver of the military truck has been identified and is facing charges for allegedly causing the accident due to negligent driving.
This tragic incident has once again brought safety concerns on the Pune-Mumbai Expressway into focus. The unexpected halt of a heavy vehicle on a high-speed route raises questions about the importance of maintaining secure driving practices, especially with military and other large vehicles that may need additional time to brake. Authorities are closely examining the circumstances to ensure better safety measures are implemented to prevent similar accidents.
