According to the IMD's latest bulletin, moderate showers are expected to hit Mumbai over the weekend, accompanied by thunderstorm activity. This comes as part of a broader weather system affecting parts of Maharashtra, despite the formal withdrawal of the monsoon from the city. The yellow alert for Mumbai is set to remain in place until at least Tuesday, warning residents to stay cautious during these unstable weather conditions.

Although the monsoon season has officially receded, Mumbai continues to receive intermittent rainfall. Between Friday and Saturday morning, the Colaba weather station recorded 18 mm of rain, while the Santacruz station noted a lighter 4 mm. However, this has not brought much relief from the heat, as temperatures soared to nearly 34°C, with the Santacruz area registering a maximum of 33.7°C on Friday. The hot and humid conditions have left many Mumbaikars feeling the discomfort of high heat levels despite the periodic showers.

The IMD has attributed the ongoing spells of rain and thunderstorms to cyclonic circulation over the North Lakshadweep region, compounded by an upper air cyclonic system in the Andaman Sea. According to the IMD, these systems are expected to clear by next week, but not before delivering moderate showers across Mumbai and heavier downpours in districts like Thane and Raigad.

While Mumbai may experience moderate rainfall over the weekend, the IMD has predicted more intense rain for nearby Thane and Raigad districts, especially on Sunday. The yellow alert issued for these areas warns of the potential for heavy showers, which could lead to localized flooding and waterlogging in certain areas. Residents in these districts should stay alert and take precautions to avoid the effects of sudden, heavy rain.

Rising Temperatures Expected Next Week

Once the current weather systems dissipate, temperatures across Mumbai are expected to rise significantly.
