Maharashtra Battles Scorching Heat and Sporadic Rainfall: IMD Issues Yellow Alert Across Several Districts

As Maharashtra grapples with October’s sweltering heat, some regions of the state are witnessing bouts of rainfall, creating a stark contrast in weather conditions. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed the extreme daytime heat to cloudy conditions combined with a persistent heatwave. However, relief may come in the form of light rain, which is expected in parts of Maharashtra, including Pune, today and tomorrow.

The monsoon, which is retreating from North India, has progressed quickly to Maharashtra, though it has currently stalled in the Nandurbar District. A low-pressure system over the Arabian Sea has caused the cloudy, hot weather prevailing across the state, and the IMD has predicted light rain in several areas of Konkan and Central Maharashtra over the next two days. A yellow alert has been issued for Raigad, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg districts for the next three days, as weather patterns indicate the possibility of continued rainfall.

In addition, rain is likely in 18 districts between today and October 16, including Nashik, Ahmednagar, Pune, Satara, Sangli, Kolhapur, and Solapur, along with parts of Marathwada and Northern Maharashtra. Farmers in the state are growing concerned about the impact of more rain on their crops, particularly after sporadic rainfall in recent days.

Last night, Pune experienced rain around 7 PM, with recent weather alternating between sunny afternoons and rainy evenings. The city was also hit by sudden thunderstorms yesterday, highlighting the unpredictable weather pattern. While isolated areas in Konkan and Central Maharashtra, such as Raigad, Ratnagiri, Sindhudurg, Pune, Satara, and Kolhapur, faced heavy rain yesterday, the oppressive October heat continues to affect large parts of the state.

The yellow alert issued by the IMD includes the following districts:

  • Palghar (12, 13 October)
  • Thane (12, 13 October)
  • Raigad (12, 13 October)
  • Ratnagiri (12, 13 October)
  • Dhule (12, 13 October)
  • Nandurbar (12, 13 October)
  • Nashik (12, 13 October)
  • Pune (12, 13 October)
  • Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar (12, 13 October)
  • Kolhapur (12, 13 October)
  • Satara (12 October)
  • Jalna (12 October)
  • Beed (12 October)
  • Akola (12 October)
  • Amravati (12 October)
  • Buldana (12, 13 October)
  • Wardha (12, 13 October)
  • Washim (12, 13 October)
  • Yavatmal (12, 13 October)

As the state contends with both heat and rain, citizens are urged to stay updated on weather forecasts and take necessary precautions, especially in areas under yellow alert.
