Norwegian authorities reported an explosion near the United States Embassy in Oslo in the early hours of Sunday morning, sending a significant police presence to the scene while confirming that no injuries had been sustained as a result of the blast.

According to Oslo police, the explosion occurred at approximately 1:00 a.m. local time, with officers arriving shortly after receiving multiple emergency reports from residents in the surrounding area. Police incident commander Michael Delmer confirmed to public broadcaster NRK that the blast struck the entrance of the embassy's consular section, resulting in what he described as minor structural damage.

"At around 1 a.m. we received several reports of an explosion. We arrived shortly afterward and confirmed that there had been an explosion that hit the US embassy," Delmer told NRK. "There is minor damage."

Authorities declined to provide further details regarding the nature of the explosion, citing the early stage of the ongoing investigation. "We are not going to comment on anything related to the type of damage, what it is that has exploded and similar details, beyond the fact that there has been an explosion," Delmer stated.

A large number of police resources were deployed to the scene, including officers armed with automatic weapons, police dogs, surveillance drones, and helicopters. Oslo police confirmed they were in active dialogue with embassy officials throughout the incident.

Local residents reported hearing a loud and startling blast. A 16-year-old witness identified only as Edvard told Norwegian broadcaster TV2 that the explosion was powerful enough to initially make him believe it had originated within his own home before noticing the heavy police response outside.

The incident comes amid heightened security alerts at U.S. embassies across the Middle East, following American military operations in Iran and subsequent retaliatory actions by Tehran against diplomatic and industrial targets. However, Norwegian police have given no indication that the Oslo explosion is connected to the broader regional conflict. CBS News has reached out to the U.S. State Department for an official comment.
