Dehradun Police Arrest Five with Stolen Device, Possible Terror Angle Investigated

Radiography Camera with Radioactive Warning Found

In a high-profile case, five individuals were arrested in Dehradun on Friday evening for possessing a stolen radiography camera. The device was recovered from the residence of a former Income Tax Commissioner, previously jailed for corruption.

The arrests were made following a tip-off received by the Rajpur police about suspicious activities at the flat of Shwetabh Suman in Brookwood Society. The individuals were allegedly discussing the sale and purchase of the device, which was labeled as radioactive.

According to Rajpur SHO PD Bhatt, the police found a black box with a warning label indicating it contained radioactive material. The device had an inscription from the Board of Radiation and Isotope Technology, Department of Atomic Energy.

The arrested individuals, identified as Tabbrez Alam, Sumeet Pathak, and three others from Agra, Delhi, and Madhya Pradesh, have been booked under sections 270, 271, and 272 of the Indian Penal Code.

Ajay Singh, SSP Dehradun, mentioned that the investigation is ongoing and more arrests are likely. The police are also exploring a potential terror angle, as the accused had contacts in Delhi and Faridabad.

While initial investigations suggested the device might be radioactive, the Radiation Emergency Response Team from Narora Atomic Power Station found no radioactive material. The device has been sent for further examination.
